Let It Shine (Singapore Drama)

Let It Shine is a Singaporean drama which was telecast on Singapore's free-to-air channel, MediaCorp TV Channel 8. It made its debut on 16 January 2007 and ended its 20-episode run on 12 February 2007.

The show achieved high viewership rates for a local drama serial. Almost 900,000 viewers tuned in to the premiere episode, making it one of the most watched Singaporean television dramas, second only to . In fact, the figures were even higher than the finale episodes of popular series such as A Million Treasures and Measure of Man.

Despite this show being a teenage idol drama, 23.5% of the viewers were actually housewives, while only about 14.5% were students and teenagers.

Synopsis


Guo Yaoyao has just graduated from university, and is a modern young lady full of hopes and dreams for her future. Blessed with good looks and intellect, she dreams of becoming a superstar and goes around taking part in idol competitions, holding on to the unrealistic hope of making it big overnight.

Without much luck in her quest, Yaoyao is forced to support herself and nonchalantly picks the profession of a relief teacher. She meets a bunch of self-professed hopeless students and becomes determined in helping them solve their problems. In the course of helping the students, Yaoyao also finds new love and fell for the physical education teacher.

Having struck a firm friendship with the students she helped, Yaoyao begins to find fulfilment in her job. She is now faced with the dilemma of pursuing her dream of becoming a superstar, or continues the profession of a teacher.

Criticism


Many had criticized this show for being a replica of another Hong Kong drama series, Shine On You, as they had very similar content, and even the show titles were similar.
